Preservation planning is a process that uses policy and planning to develop the priorities, objectives and vision for the preservation of a community’s historic and cultural resources. Through community engagement we help develop successful preservation plans by: (1) assisting communities in identifying and establishing their historic contexts, (2) using those contexts to develop goals and priorities for the identification, evaluation, registration and treatment of the historic and cultural properties, and (3) developing plans and technical resources that can be used as long-term tools for implementation.

SDS has a wealth of experience in Facade Ordinance requirements and supports our clients in compliance with applicable regulations. New York City’s Facade Inspection Safety Program (FISP) requires that owners of buildings with more than six stories above grade have their exterior walls and appurtenances inspected once every five years. We maintain Qualified Exterior Wall Inspector (QEWI) status with the NYC Department of Buildings which allows us to conduct the required inspections, submit technical reports, and develop and execute a repair program for FISP-related repairs. Additionally, we have extensive experience assisting our clients with responding to any issued facade violations with the Department of Buildings and Environmental Control Board.

Industrial Rope Access is a specialized technique used for working at height, where workers use ropes and climbing techniques to access difficult-to-reach areas. Key advantages of industrial rope access include its efficiency, and minimal impact on the environment and surrounding structures.

SDS has in-house SPRAT-certified Professional Rope Access Technicians, enabling us to conduct inspections swiftly and efficiently. Our expertise in industrial rope access (IRA) has been applied to a variety of projects, allowing us to avoid the complexities and high costs associated with traditional scaffolding and difficult rigging. This approach not only saves time and resources but also ensures that we can reach and inspect areas that would otherwise be inaccessible.

SDS completes exterior envelope due diligence services to provide clients with a detailed assessment of an asset. These are often completed as pre-purchase or pre-sale evaluations with the aim of understanding the exterior envelope in terms of its materials, construction methodologies, and existing condition. These observations enable us to anticipate necessary maintenance and repairs with both short and long-term considerations. SDS has experience performing due diligence assessments on commercial, hospitality and multi-family residential properties.
